Decision questions

Use the role, not the most impressive title.

What work do you actually perform?

Field installation, assessment, planning, programme administration and product support require different evidence.

Are you applying as a person or organization?

Personnel credentials focus on individual competence; organizational qualifications also examine systems and responsible people.

What regulated authority applies?

Trade and professional licensing remains separate from RSM credentialing.

How will you maintain competence?

Choose a pathway whose continuing education and renewal expectations fit the role.

Frequently asked questions

Pathway selection questions

Which pathway should I choose?

Choose the pathway whose audience, competencies and assessment match your actual role. The Pathway Finder and candidate handbook can help organize the decision.

Can an organization hold an RSM qualification?

The Contractor Qualification and Qualified Solution Provider pathways are planned for organizations with identified responsible people and evidence systems.

Can I hold more than one credential?

Yes, where the candidate independently meets the requirements for each pathway.

Are credential titles protected by law?

RSM credential titles are governed by RSM use rules, but they are not statutory professional or trade titles.

Candidate planning

Document your current role and evidence first.

The application readiness form can identify the pathway you are considering and the evidence you already have.

Pathway fit

Match the credential to the work, evidence and accountability.

Pathway comparison is a risk-control step, not simply a marketing choice. A field technician pathway should not be used as a substitute for a planning, municipal-programme or organizational qualification. Candidates should select the pathway that matches their actual role, decision responsibility and available evidence.

RSM should publish examples of suitable and unsuitable applicants and allow a candidate to change pathways before assessment when the evidence points elsewhere. Employers should evaluate an RSM credential together with experience, licences, insurance, references and project suitability.

  • Match the title to the real role.
  • Distinguish personal and organizational credentials.
  • Review the evidence burden before paying.
  • Confirm external licensing separately.

RSM credentials are education-based professional-development pathways. They do not replace licences, permits, statutory credentials, professional engineering authority, municipal approval or employer responsibility. Planned requirements and fees may be refined before applications or payments open.
